Arabian Lights!

The most recent challenge to arrive in my studio was to
refurbish and rebirth three Middle Eastern shades ... the client
set me loose on them and I had the best time!
They will go into a very popular pub, providing ambiance,
lighting, and old world glamour.
Can you smell the spicy food? Hear
the rhythms of exotic musicians? And see
the vibrant textures of the tapestries on the walls???
I hope so, I hope the lamps and shades support the senses
in their search for beauty and new possibilities!

This one is features hand strung glass beads and is lit up
in the bottom as well as the top. Each shade is lined with silk and
reflects different colors depending on where you are standing.

Austin in Bloom

Each shade has a story, a history and driving force ... And I love sharing them!

"Austin in Bloom" was commissioned by and designed for a delightful woman in Austin, Texas. She and I  established a friendship as we consulted and came to consensus. We discussed the merits of various shade shapes and sizes, hues and flowers, fit and color harmony. Even though we chatted many times and exchanged photos, I must admit I still held my breath until she saw the final photos and said ...

"I'm so delighted ... She (the shade) is comfortably ensconced in her new home in Texas. There is such a match between the shade and the whimsical chair, "... as if the were made for each other!" And, of course, they were!

This shade is hand stitched and embellished with crystals, silk ribbon embroidery, and an ombre, hand dyed fringe. All are unique, made to order, pieces of functional art.
