Evan's Rose

Evans's Rose was a challenge and delight to construct ... the client specified a shade in flame-and-embers-red with a 1940's "slightly gothic" touch.

I found a shade frame that complimented his lamp. We worked together to match up silk, black netting, ribbon trim, tassels and beading.

And so, an heirloom is born!

Denice's Secret Garden

Denice's Secret Garden is a commission inspired by the client's desire to start Springtime a bit early and bring it indoors. The shade was lined in golden satin, covered in vintage style netting, and framed with beautiful Kona Asian fabric. Once basic construction was completed, the magic really began to happen! Denice's Secret Garden really came to life as I embellished her with handmade silk flowers, corner beading and finally accented her with fine gold stitching. Check out the "Before" photo below.

It's difficult to capture the luminosity of this shade ... so, you'll have to take my word for it, it glows!

I enjoy custom work, let me know how we can work together to lighten up your home or place of business!

Felicity in Sea Foam

Felicity is constructed from one of my favorite fabrics - a sea-foam chintz embossed with gold swirls. The client loved the idea of embedding a clear dragonfly into the shade ... This shade
is beautiful with and without light shining through her! The side panels are made from ROCO embroidered silk, trimmed in matching gimp and beaded fringe.

Each shades is custom made to suit the color preferences and needs of the client ... give me a call and let's get started on yours!

The price is for the shade only. If you need help finding the perfect lamp, I can help you with that too.

Ingrid is a gracious shade made for a vintage floor lamp. She's made of embroidered silk that appears to change hue depending on the viewer's vantage point. Working with silk is so much fun!

The overall affect is enhanced by the addition of black pleated trim and a grandmother's earring. I really enjoy displaying family jewelry in this way.

The original shade was a commission and has sold. If you'd like a similar shade, contact me and we'll come up with the perfect design for your home, office, or shop.

The price is for the hand sewn shade only. I'll be happy to help you find the perfect lamp if you need one.

Arabian Lights!

The most recent challenge to arrive in my studio was to
refurbish and rebirth three Middle Eastern shades ... the client
set me loose on them and I had the best time!
They will go into a very popular pub, providing ambiance,
lighting, and old world glamour.
Can you smell the spicy food? Hear
the rhythms of exotic musicians? And see
the vibrant textures of the tapestries on the walls???
I hope so, I hope the lamps and shades support the senses
in their search for beauty and new possibilities!

This one is features hand strung glass beads and is lit up
in the bottom as well as the top. Each shade is lined with silk and
reflects different colors depending on where you are standing.

Austin in Bloom

Each shade has a story, a history and driving force ... And I love sharing them!

"Austin in Bloom" was commissioned by and designed for a delightful woman in Austin, Texas. She and I  established a friendship as we consulted and came to consensus. We discussed the merits of various shade shapes and sizes, hues and flowers, fit and color harmony. Even though we chatted many times and exchanged photos, I must admit I still held my breath until she saw the final photos and said ...

"I'm so delighted ... She (the shade) is comfortably ensconced in her new home in Texas. There is such a match between the shade and the whimsical chair, "... as if the were made for each other!" And, of course, they were!

This shade is hand stitched and embellished with crystals, silk ribbon embroidery, and an ombre, hand dyed fringe. All are unique, made to order, pieces of functional art.

She's a star!

I love doing commissions, especially when the client asks me to incorporate treasures and momentous into the design.

Rebecca's shade, which features her grandmother's broach, pair of matching cloisonne belt loops, and pair of vintage earrings, is an example of a unique way to display heirloom jewelry.

My hand-sewn shades can be made with sections of a beloved grandfather's shirt, trimmed with an auntie's collection of charms, or feature scraps of a Christening gown. I'd love to hear your ideas! I'd love to hear from you!!

"Miss Ellen" lit up the stage and was among the stars in "Mousetrap," a play by Agatha Christie, performed by the Corbett Performing Arts Club last fall.
