Nadia

Nadia came alive by uniting hand dyed, silk ribbon from the Ukraine with a carefully restored and wired brass oil lamp. I worked the red and green ombre ribbon into an art nouveau motif of flowers and made it the the focal center on my hand-stitched, silk shade.

The 16 panels on the shade's frame had presented a real challenge, taking weeks of trial, error, and determined effort to achieve the desired effect. Pairing this unique shade with an authentic, brass oil lamp made her complete!

Vanessa, original Art Nouveau style lamp shade featuring a silk dragonfly applique

The name "Vanessa" has several meanings including, Mystic Goddess, Starlight, Butterfly, and Bird Song, each one perfectly describing this elegant lamp shade. She's reminiscent of the era of tiffany lamps made of prized stained glass and ladies dancing the Fox Trot in shimmering dresses adored beaded fringes.

As usual, the photographs don't do justice to the vibrant colors and textured silks. You'll love how the light is caught in the folds of the Shibori silk ribbon and cause the crystals to twinkle!

Whether purchased as a stunning stand alone art lamp or as part of a collection, Venessa will brighten any home - craftsman or contemporary, traditional or midcentury.

The list price is $2600 and is for the lampshade and solid brace lamp base.

Thelma, Craftsman style lampshade and lamp

Thelma, my latest craftsman style lampshade, was designed as a stand alone piece of artful lighting or as an addition to the home of an art nouveau enthusiast living in a San Francisco painted lady. Her name sake, my Aunt Thelma, lived in the Bay Area with my Uncle Lennard in the 1950s. Their turn of the century home was always comfortably welcoming (Aunt Thelma was a great cook!) though Uncle Lennard's 25 chiming clocks frequently interrupted conversations.

Materials in "Thelma" feature remnants of a gentleman's silk tie, rich brown and teal silk fabrics, and silk ribbon work with a Czechoslovakian glass window at its center.

"Thelma" is paired with an original wooden lamp. The list price is $1400 and is for the lampshade and lamp.

"Lucinda"

The name "Lucinda" means "giver of first light to the newly born," is honored by this golden lampshade adorned in satin and crystals!

This delicate, beaded lampshade is dedicated to my friend, Cynthia, and was inspired by Lucine, the Roman goddess of childbirth.

The glow from this lampshade is enhanced by the merging of two golden satins, vintage netting, and silk ribbon flowers. Art nouveau roses and leaves are framed in shear amber silk windows on both the front and back panels.

The list price is $2,200 and is for the lampshade and lamp.

Esmeralda

Esmeralda, like a fairy in the Emerald City of OZ, is both bold and delicate, silky and textured, reminding me of seafoam and forest ferns.

She was difficult and illusive to conceptualize and construct ... I wonder if the mothers of fluttering baby fairies have this much trouble! With each project, I have to endure hours of trial and error till I finally throw my hands up in the air and just keep taking the stitches until at last, the magic happens and lights come on! Birth of Esmeralda took more than a month!

Esmeralda is constructed with dupion silk over an underlayer of gold embossed, seafoam Kona cotton. The seafoam is smocked and beaded to give it texture and interest on the edges and three side panels. The front panel is embellished with an art nouveau style, glass Czech button that glows when back lit. The fringe is hand beaded with aquamarine, 2" bugle beads and crystals.

The lamp base is a rewired, brass lamp with an art nouveau patterned base and inset of green jadeite in its stem. She stands 22" high and will be a lovely piece of functional art in any room of your home or office!

The list price is $1700 and is for the lampshade and lamp.
